About Us

The staff of TDS attend seminars and professional programs throughout the year. We are also students and continue our training regularly. We both completed the adrenalin stress self defense training at the University of California at Santa Cruz with the Kidpower, Teenpower, Fullpower International non-profit organization. By continually learning and training, we bring to our students the latest teaching methods in a safe and effective way. By maintaining the quality and integrity of our Tang Soo Do and Fitness Kickboxing programs we provide an education that gives our students a real sense of accomplishment as they continue to gain knowledge and ability in their chosen endeavor.
Together with our 44+ years of experience, we feel we have a lot to offer the students. While we take our martial art very serious, we believe that learning should also be fun. It wouldn't make much sense to do it if you are not enjoying it. The martial arts encompasses a lot of things including: respect, discipline, confidence, self-control, building self-esteem, improving coordination, balance, focus, and learning to defend yourself should you ever need to. Most students also learn that they can do more than they ever thought they could. We truly believe in our students, even when at times they may not. We have a wonderful, truly genuine caring family atmosphere and it shows. We put our heart and soul into what we do and into helping our students be the best that they can be. Come experience the TDS difference for yourself. You'll be glad you did!

Larry Jose - 8th degree black belt.
I have crossed trained in Aikido, Jujitsu, Judo, Tae Kwon Do and Modern Arnis. I was the first person in Michigan certified as a CDT Tactical Master Instructor in non-deadly force training. I am also a Vietnam veteran. I have been blessed to have the opportunity to share my passion for the martial arts along with the knowledge I have gained from some very caring and compassionate instructors over the years with our students. What makes this so amazing is that the martial arts can help the weak become strong, the timid become assertive, the overly aggressive become calm and the stressed become relaxed. There is no better feeling than to help someone achieve something that they never thought they could, their black belt!

I have crossed trained in Jujitsu, Tae Kwon Do and Modern Arnis. I have completed the CDT non-deadly force training program. My passion is the forms and defensive combinations. You can easily tell that I love working on and teaching those techniques. I love working with kids. It is a great joy to see their faces light up when they accomplish a new task. Teaching them is rewarding, challenging and very fulfilling.
